Overview

This 4-Days Murchison Falls Safari Uganda will take you to Uganda’s largest park, Murchison Falls National Park. Situated in Northwestern Uganda covering an area of 3,840 sq km, the park was gazetted in 1926 as a game reserve. The park features stunning Savannah grasslands and is split into northern and southern banks by the Victoria Nile river.

Murchison Falls is home to over 451 bird species including the Great Blue Turaco, Goliath Heron, the Shoebill, and the Dwarf Kingfisher among others. The park hosts 76 mammal species and numerous Nile crocodiles. The highlight is the magnificent and thunderous Murchison Falls, where the Nile squeezes through a spectacular 8m wide gorge.

During this safari, you’ll experience thrilling game drives and scenic boat cruises along the Nile River.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park/Rhino Tracking

After an early breakfast, our professional Snowfield Treks Safaris guide will pick you up from your hotel at 7:00 am. Following a brief orientation about your 4-day safari, you’ll begin your 6-hour journey to Murchison Falls National Park.

En route, you’ll stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for Rhino tracking, where you can observe both black and white rhinos. After tracking, you’ll stop in Masindi for lunch before proceeding to the park. After completing park entry formalities, you’ll drive to your lodge for evening relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive and Afternoon Boat Cruise Along the Nile

Wake up early for breakfast at 6:00 am. Your driver and ranger guide will collect you at 6:30 am for your morning game drive. During the drive, you’ll have opportunities to spot various wildlife including lions, buffaloes, giraffes, elephants, antelopes, waterbucks, and numerous bird species.

Return to the lodge around 11:40 am for relaxation and lunch before the afternoon boat cruise. During the cruise, you’ll observe Nile crocodiles, hippos, buffaloes, and elephants along the riverbanks. Watch for beautiful birds like bee-eaters, kingfishers, and the shoebill stork. The boat takes you to the base of Murchison Falls for a magnificent view of the falls.

Optional: Hike to the top of the falls where your driver guide will meet you for return transfer to the lodge.

Day 3: Morning Game Drive and Night Game Drive

Begin your day with breakfast at 6:00 am. Your driver and ranger guide will collect you at 6:30 am for another game drive opportunity. Spot various wildlife including lions, buffaloes, giraffes, elephants, antelopes, waterbucks, and diverse bird species.

Return to the lodge around 11:40 am for relaxation and lunch. Later, enjoy an exciting night game drive experience.

Day 4: Departure/Return to Kampala/Visit to the Top of the Falls

After breakfast, visit the Top of Murchison Falls for an amazing experience watching the mighty falls squeeze through the 8m gorge. Take plenty of photos of this spectacular sight.

During your return journey to Kampala, watch for various animal species in the grasslands, including buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, lions, and antelopes, plus numerous bird species. Stop in Masindi for lunch before continuing to Kampala, arriving in the evening.
